WINTER BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

Tryouts for the DBA Drive Basketball Club WINTER BASKETBALL SEASON are here!  TELL YOUR FRIENDS to join you!

We will be having multiple tryout dates but it is highly encouraged that you come to the first available tryout in your age group and suggest you attend multiple tryouts so that our coaches can get to know you better.  Sign Up NOW!

We plan to have teams in grades 4 through 8, however, if we have well over 10 kids for quality 7th grade teams (example) we will potentially have two teams in one age group.  Conversely, if we do NOT have enough players in any one age group we will not field a team.  So tell your friends, classmates, and former basketball teammates to sign up for DBA tryouts.

WHO:

  • Boys Teams in 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade, and 8th Grade

DATE/SITE: 

  • Saturday, September 14th = Tryout #1
    • Herman Intermediate School
      • 10:00am to 12:00pm
        • 10 – 11am = Grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (ALL ages at 10am)
  • Wednesday, September 18th = Tryout #2
    • Herman Intermediate School

      • 5:30pm – 7:30pm
  • Bring a ball, water, and be ready to compete!
  • If you pay to attend session 1 you get to attend session 2 free of charge.
  • MAKE-UP TRYOUTS:  If you cannot attend due to other practices/games, please notify coach@dbadrive.com  and we will make arrangements for you to attend another session.

Coach Chris Denker has over 37 years of coaching experience as an NCAA Division 1 College Basketball Head Coach, Professional Basketball Head Coach, International Head Coach in England and China, Coached High School basketball at the highest levels, and has trained or coached NUMEROUS players and coaches to further their careers at the collegiate and professional levels.

The DBA Drive coaching staff is made up of current High School coaches, Junior College coaches, college players, and former DBA players.

DBA Drive and the Denker Basketball Academy have helped over 48 players to play college basketball/athletics.  Another 9 players or coaches have gone on to become High School Coaches, NCAA College Coaches, and 1 has gone on to join the NBA’s Miami Heat scouting & analytics staff.

10th Annual SPLASH Fall Basketball

We are having our 10th Annual September Splash Program, this year will feature 2 monthly programs and we have added 2 additional sessions!. The first is a 8-night, all in September, Shooting and 3v3 program. The second is also a 8-night clinic, all in October focused on Shooting, Ball Handling, Scoring Moves, and 3v3/4v4 play.

THIS PROGRAM TYPICALLY SELLS OUT QUICKLY…Sign up now! We will have two sessions per night, grouped by age, all at Oak Grove High School & we have sold out in years past.

Each year our goal is to get each kid over 2,000 shots in September working on form, footwork, shooting from spots, pull-ups off the dribble, free throws, and 3-point shots. That will take up 45 minutes of each session and the remaining 45 minutes will be spent playing live 3v3 & 4v4 scrimmages (3 games x 12 min. each night) with a different focus each night being on all cuts/screens, pick/roll, handoffs, post-ups & triangles, in both half-court and full-court settings as well as the defensive side of the ball. Kids will play in different groups every night so they get to know each other better.

The fall program will be open to boys & girls 3rd grade thru High School however we will limit the number of kids in any one grade so that all kids in all grades (boys/girls) will get to an opportunity to play. These programs will get your player ready for the High School, Middle School, or our DBA WINTER season which begins in November.

SEPTEMBER SPLASH, on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 9/3 – 9/26. The Cost is $215 (every player will receive a free T-shirt)

OCTOBER SPLASH, on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 10/1 – 10/24. The Cost is $215 (every player will receive a free T-shirt)

DBA High School AAU Tryouts ’24

Entering it’s 10th Anniversary as one of the best AAU Basketball Clubs in all of California, DBA Drive is holding tryouts for its HS teams, sign up now!

DBA has placed 46 players into COLLEGE athletics and also assisted players/coaches who’ve gone on to become coaches at the HS, college, and NBA level!

HS Tryout #1

  • Sunday, February 18th
  • 5pm – to – 7pm
  • Pioneer HS (main gym)

HS Tryout #2

  • Monday, February 26th
  • 6pm – to – 8pm
  • Oak Grove HS (small gym)

Spring/Summer ’24 AAU Tryouts

AAU TRYOUTS for our 10th Year of DBA DRIVE Basketball – All Ages!

SEASON:

  • March 27 is first practice
  • Practices Twice weekly on weeknights at local gyms

September Splash 2023 Registration Open (2 sessions!)

We are having our 9th Annual September Splash Program, this year will feature 2 sessions. The first is a 6-session, all in September, Shooting and 3v3 program. The second is also a 6-night clinic, all in October focused on Ball Handling, Scoring Moves, and 3v3/4v4 play.

This year, due to high demand, we will be offering 2-Sessions of our Splash Program. The first is our 6-night September Splash Shooting and 3v3 Program. The second session will also be 6-nights in October with the focus on Ball Handling, Scoring Moves, and 3v3/4v4 scrimmages.

2023 AAU High School Tryout #3

AAU TRYOUTS for our 9th Year of DBA DRIVE Basketball 

We will be forming teams for boys and girls starting in grade 4 through 8 and highly competitive High School teams (9th – 11th) again this spring/summer with DBA Drive Basketball. Last year we formed both Tournament and Travel teams that participated in high level AAU events and/or NCAA Recruiting Period events. Our tournament teams play local & Bay Area tournaments while our travel teams will also play outside of the area in Los Angeles, Reno, & Las Vegas.

In recent years we’ve had 18 highly successful teams in our and have repeatedly sold out fall and winter sessions as well. Thus, we intend to field another 18 teams for boys/girls and will be selecting top players from our tryouts to form one-to-two teams per age level and approximately 6 High School teams.

This is a tryout for a competitive AAU basketball club team and not everyone is selected for a team. Scoring Academy – October

This is a 3-week, 6-session camp held outdoors.  IF the local gym rental restrictions lift we will move the camp indoors.

This is a SCORING Camp.  Learn how to attack your defender, score with the ball, live ball moves, jab series moves, scoring against your defender and how to adjust to rotating help defenders.  We will also work on using screens and reading your defender to create space and advantage.  We will work on perimeter moves, mid-post moves, low post moves, pick/roll execution to score, and scoring in transition off downhill drives.

We will also focus on reading the defense and reacting to rotations, switches, and double teams in various 2-man & 3-man scenarios.

 

When? Tuesday and Thursday nights in October, 10/13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29.

Time? One Sessions for all ages, separated by court: 

      • 5:00-6:30pm

Where? Castillero Middle School Outdoor Courts

IMPORTANT NOTE: This camp and all other DBA ACADEMY programs will require the purchase of a reversible jersey.  Our Covid-19 protocols will not allow us to provide scrimmage vests or pinnies and launder them nightly as we usually do.  Instead, you’ll be responsible for your own jersey but once you purchase it you’ll be able to use it for all DBA programs that follow.

DBA “Fall Break” Basketball Camp

The San Jose Unified School District annual “Fall Break” is September 28th through October 2nd.  No Online School for your kids!  We’ll take the kids for a couple hours so you can get work and errands done and they aren’t sitting in front of a screen. Bring them to our DBA Drive Fall Break Basketball Camp, we have limited space so Sign up now!

 

This camp will focus on skill development, specifically individual offensive skills like dribbling, shooting layups, jump shots, 3 point shots, & Free Throws.  We will also work on finishing & scoring moves on the perimeter and in the post.  Defensive fundamentals will be introduced through stance, movement, positioning and communication.

 

When? 9/28-10/2 during SJUSD Fall Break

Time? One Sessions for all ages, separated by court: 

      • 10:00-12:00pm daily

September Splash 2020

Due to Covid19 forcing us outdoors and the local fires affecting the air quality causing delays we’ve pushed back the start of our 6th annual September Splash program and will condense it to 2 weeks (4-sessions).

Registration is NOW OPEN!  Act soon as we’ve sold out 200 spots in 48-72 hours each of the last 3 years and this year we will be limited to just 84 spots for all age groups combined.  Sign up now or you may lose your spot.

This program has typically been SHOOTING and 3v3 GAMES in local gyms.  However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will socially distance to the best of our abilities, remain outdoors, and utilize cohorts for our SKILL TRAINING program.  You will stay on the same court, grouped by ages, for your session and execute the skills being taught in your area.  The fall program will be open to boys & girls 3rd grade thru High School Seniors, however, we will limit the number of kids in any one grade so that all kids in all grades (boys/girls) will get to an opportunity to play.  

We will consider having another session that you could attend IF numbers exceed our limit, for the past two years we have SOLD OUT very quickly and had a long waiting list for September Splash so sign up now!
